Anaheim, CAThe Natural Products Expo West show just keeps getting bigger and better! From March 4-7, the natural products industry took over the Anaheim Convention Center for the exclusive event featuring education sessions, networking events, and more than 3,000 exhibitors. The 44th edition of the trade show hosted 64,000 attendees during the three-day event, of which:

  • Two-thirds were buyers
  • 30% were first-time exhibitors
  • Over 123 countries were represented including Canada, Paraguay, Japan, Korea and Mexico.

The WholeFoods Magazine team was in attendance, scouring the show room floor for the latest trends, innovations, and product offerings. Read on for the insights that caught our attention.

Trending Topics

Protein was one of the dominant trends this year, with many companies promoting their existing product offerings with added protein or debuting cleaner, alternative source, protein products. Other notable trends included enhanced hydration products, natural GLP-1 boosters and support supplements, functional mushrooms, energy enhancers, and women’s health focused products. 

Spotlight on GLP-1

There was considerable buzz around GLP-1, with ingredient suppliers showcasing ingredients that can offer support, as . Experts were there to offer insights to brands looking to come to market with innovative offerings. In the education session Effective Retail and Marketing Strategies for GLP-1 Counter and Companion Supplements, Douglas Lynch, CEO of Marketwell Nutrition Inc. and Strategic Partnership Advisor to Ingredients By Nature (IBN), outlined consumers that may benefit from alternatives:
  • People on the medications who have nutritional needs and want to mitigate side effects;
  • People who want to get off the medications and maintain a healthy lifestyle;
  • People who won’t take the medications due to factors such as cost, concerns over side effects, or a desire not to take pharmaceutical drugs.

For natural ingredients, Lynch points to the benefits of IBN’s branded ingredient Eriomin. The patented citrus bioflavonoid is backed by three clinical trials showing its ability to boost GLP-1 levels naturally.

Also speaking at the session was Stephanie Redmond, PharmD, Founder and Vice President of Dr. Stephanie’s Supplements, which offers GLP-Wonder to naturally support GLP-1 function with citrus bioflavonoid, plus GLP-1 Buddy, designed to be paired with GLP-1 medications for nutritional support.

Who We Met

We stopped by several booths to learn more about the companies and their showcasing. Here are just some of the brands we caught up with:

ADM was discussing the latest research and cutting-edge ingredients spanning microbiome solutions, botanical extracts, sweetening solutions, plant proteins and naturally derived flavors and colors supporting key wellness segments. One area that is especially hot thanks is weight management, with GLP-1 medication usage on the rise. ADM discussed insights and its platform of supportive solutions for those taking GLP-1 and other anti-obesity medications (AOMs). Learn more about ADM’s new platform and range of GLP-1 complementary nutrition solution concepts here. The company was also showcasing its science-backed Lactobacillus gasseri CP2305 postbiotic. Across eight clinical trials, L. gasseri CP2305 has demonstrated support for stress, mood and sleep, along with specific factors relevant to women’s health and for supporting recovery after exercise.

AIDP was raising awareness on patent infringers. The branded ingredient Magtein magnesium L-threonate is backed by clinical studies to support memory, focus, deep sleep and overall brain health and has over a dozen patents in the U.S. and many worldwide to ensure the quality of the ingredient at the highest standards with no impurities, the company shared. AIDP stressed that if a product is making health claims based on the branded ingredient Magtein, that product must include Magtein to ensure consumers are getting the benefits they seek. A-Sha is making a name for themselves within the well established ramen noodle market. In addition to offering a quick, healthy, and flavorful product the company is generating serious buzz amongst consumers with their long list of collabs with company’s like Hot Ones, Hello Kitty, and 88rising. 

BADGER, which offers SPF 30 Mineral Sunscreens for Face and Body with sheer matte formulas that are reef-safe, clean, lightweight, and and moisturizing, was also showcasing its new line of hair oils. Castor Hair Oil harnesses the power of organic castor oil to boost hair growth, while a unique fusion of organic red clover extract and invigorating peppermint promotes fuller-looking locks. Argan Hair Oil is a lightweight serum that harnesses the power of Argan and Abyssinian oils to tame frizz, boost shine, and reduce brittleness and breakage for silky, touchable hair. Jojoba Hair Oil is a lightweight, non-greasy serum specially formulated to repair the look of damaged hair, strengthen hair follicles, and deeply hydrate while providing long-lasting moisture to soothe your dry, irritated scalp. It features organic jojoba oil as the hero ingredient, along with organic tea tree oil and rosemary oil, and organic coconut oil.

Bioenergy Life Science (BLS) was spreading the word on the aging biomarker trifecta of NAD+, ATP and glutathione, and the company’s single ingredient, RiaGev, which has been shown to elevate all three biomarkers. BLS also reports that stimulant-free, caffeine-free energy drinks and supplements on the rise. The company’s core ingredient, Bioenergy Ribose, is a stimulant-free, natural energy booster that works at the cellular level. It is GRAS, approved as a Novel Food by EFSA and backed by science, which BLS says makes it a standout option for those looking to energize without the jitters.

Botanic Tonics was on the show floor to spread the word about kava and kratom, which have hundreds of years of historical human use. They explained that kava provides calming effects, while kratom increases tolerance and reduces susceptibility to excitation—and together these botanicals create an entourage effect that helps deliver a sense of “chilled energy” and increased focus. The botanicals are the star ingredients in the company’s Feel Free 2-oz. tonic, which provides a botanically based alternative to traditional energy drinks. Califia Farms celebrates its 15th anniversary

Califia Farms was in full celebration mode during this year’s event with the debut of their Birthday Cake Almond Creamer in honor of their 15th anniversary. Guests who stopped by their booth were able to discover their new ready-to-drink iced coffee—Pure Black Espresso Blend Cold Brew as well as the latest expansions to their best-selling Organics line including Organic Pistachio Almond Creamer and Organic Cashewmilk.

Charlotte’s Web, familiar to many as a leader in CBD wellness, unveiled its expansion into the functional mushroom market with products formulated with Reishi and Ashwagandha, Lion’s Mane, and Cordyceps to help consumers meet their goals for better overall wellness and support for improved brain health, lively longevity, and resilience. Missy Reigle, Head of Sales, highlighted the opportunity for retailers: “Functional mushrooms are one of the fastest-growing trends in wellness, offering retailers an opportunity to meet consumer demand for natural solutions while boosting foot traffic. By curating high-quality, science-backed products, retailers can position themselves as trusted wellness innovators and drive cross-category sales with complementary offerings like CBD, nootropics, biotics, and adaptogens.” 

CON-CRĒT was on hand to discuss Creatine Hydrochloride (HCl). Mark Faulkner, CEO of Vireo Systems, noted that creatine has moved far beyond the gym, with studies showing its benefits for brain energy, immune support, and more. The wider appeal is changing the demo: Seven out of 10 creatine users are now women, he reported, adding that its never too late to start taking it, as it can offer support for brain fog, muscle health, and more. He added, “Creatine is becoming understood as the most important supplement people can take.” Regarding the ongoing debate regarding age-restriction efforts, he pointed out that any efforts to place such restrictions on creatine are based on uniformed and outdated ideas. Country Life was sharing its latest offerings, include Kids Multivitamin Honey Gummies support immune, bone and cardiovascular health. Since bees have a pivotal impact on our planet, the company has partnered with 1% for the Planet to donate 1% of its Honey Gummy revenue to support the organization Save the bees. For adults, Ageless Theory is a curated selection of supplements representing the latest scientific advances in healthy aging. The line include Anti-Glycation Support, Stem Cell Support, and Telomere Support.

Daiwa Health Development was presenting the benefits of a new ingredient: KDPH (kimchi derived postbiotic for humans). The company says KDPH has been shown to trigger immune activation with a low dose, promote healthy gut function, boost macrophage activity, promote greater IL-12 expression than other lactobacilli, support anti-diarrheal, anti-constipation, and anti-allergy activity, increase the production of hyaluronic acid from fibroblasts, and suppress elastase that decompose elastin, causing wrinkles and sagging. The low dose makes it convenient to add to formula blends, the company added, and since it is plant-based it is suitable for vegetarian formulas.

Deep Indian Kitchen debuted Momo Dumplings during this year’s show. Hitting retailers in late spring and early summer, shoppers will be able to choose from four different flavors—Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, Chicken Curry, and Veggie Masala.

Del Real Foods treated guests to their authentic, no artificial ingredients, ready to serve in minutes products which include tamales, carnitas, and salsas. The brand was handing out samples of their latest offerings which include carnitas & cheese Mini Pupusas and Birria con Consume.

Desert Essence showcased its nourishing daily moisturizer & gently foaming daily face wash, both enriched with a proprietary blend of three different Ceramides, Hyaluronic Acid and AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) to help support the skin’s natural moisture barrier.The company also recently launched a line of hair care products designed specifically for dry scalps: Dry Scalp Care Pre-Shampoo Intensive Treatment, Dry Scalp Care Shampoo, and Dry Scalp Care Conditioner.  

Dole and its lineup of “dole-licious” fruit products brought the sunshine to gloomy Anaheim. Guests were treated to the latest in fruit innovations including Dole Whip Fruit First Treats, Dole Fruit N Crème Desserts and their new mango product lineup. “We are proud to introduce our lineup of new delicious mango innovations and every day treats that deliver ‘Sunshine You Can Taste’ with each fruit-forward bite,” said Orzse Hodi, President of Dole Packaged Foods US.

Dropps is a Certified B Corp that offers a line of biobased cleaning formulas in recyclable paperboard packaging. Products include 4-in-1 Plus Oxi Biobased Power Detergent, UltraWash Plus Biobased Power Dishwasher Detergent, Free & Clear Detergent, and Oxi Booster. The line is certified cruelty free: Leaping Bunny certification means no animal testing by the company or its suppliers.

Dr. Bronner showcased its Regenerative Organic Certified and EWG Verified Pure-Castile Magic Soap products as well as the recent updates made to the brand’s product labels for its liquid and bar soaps and the brand’s participation in the Environmental Working Group’s EWG Verified program.

ECOS was showcasing its plant-powered, sustainable cleaning products, including its new Foaming Dish Spray. Free from harsh chemicals, this spray makes it possible to cut through grease while conserving water for a more sustainable clean with minimal effort. It is made without dyes, formaldehyde, or phthalates, and is available in Free & Clear or Lemon. ECOS also showcased its bestselling products across laundry, household cleaners, and more. The family owned and operated notes that every ECOS product is a green choice, including offerings like scented hand soaps for the holidays that are hypoallergenic and feature natural fragrances, and plant-derived odor eliminators that bind to odor like pet and smoke odors and leave a 100% natural fragrance.

Enzymedica was spotlighting its new line of probiotics, Subculture, for a balanced microbiome. Your gut is home to not only your digestion, but also much of your immune system. Formulas focus on bloat, mood, and women’s wellness. Evolution Fresh put the spotlight on their new Black Cherry Cola and Pineapple Dragon Fruit Real Fruit Soda. The new flavors are a response to the rising demand for classic, nostalgic flavors and unconventional, exotic tastes, while eliminating unnecessary dyes, artificial flavors and ingredients, and added sugars.

Felicia, a shortlist finalist for the 2025 NEXTY Award, is a next-gen, better-for-you pasta brand. Chef Massimo Buono was treating guests to samples of its unique pasta alternatives made from spirulina, buckwheat, oat, brown rice, chickpea, and red lentil. The company uses high quality ingredients to create products that are good for both individuals and the planet.

FrieslandCampina Ingredients discussed their application capabilities for nutritious, on-trend concepts and their flagship ingredients—Biotis Fermentis and Excellion Caseinates. Serving a key emerging market, the company explained that Biotis Fermentis is well positioned for products that formulated for GLP-1 users who may need support with gut issues and muscle health. The company also showcased Biotis Lactoferrin for the nutri-beauty market, helping brands create innovative applications that offer antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits and stimulate skin regeneration. Biotis Lactoferrin works for a broad range of in-demand and experiential dosage formats such as chewables, capsules, fastmelts and functional drinks. And FrieslandCampina Ingredients’ Step Up Nutrition portfolio of cross-category solutions for kids aged 3 years and older is designed to support the top parental concerns: growth and development, immune function, cognitive function, mental health and gut health.

GC Rieber VivoMega revealed VivoTech, VivoSense and VivoSure for the sensory performance of the omega-3 concentrates, impacting a product’s color, purity, sensory, and stability. In addition to technology concepts for omega-3 concentrates, the company debuted new algal DHA and EPA variation, Algae 1060 TG Premium. The company notes that omega-3 concentrate production is a blend of science and art. The raw material of the omega-3s varies because of differences in origin (fish or algae), as well as due to factors such as the time of season, the species of fish, the location of the fishery, and more. The resulting variability influences the fatty acid profile of the raw material and also impacts quality parameters such as oxidation, color, taste, and smell. GELITA was championing its “BE ACTIVE” motto alongside the company’s supplement and functional food solutions like Bioactive Collagen Peptides (BCP) and beauty, healthy aging, sports nutrition solutions that help support active lifestyles and nutritional needs of the nutritional supplement market. 

Gencor announced the latest addition to its ingredient portfolio: oleoylethanolamide (OAE), branded as Trpti.  OEA is a fatty acid ethanolamide that is produced by the intestine in response to ingesting food. It has been described as a signaling molecule involved in activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha (PPAR-α), which in turn helps promote lipolysis (the breakdown of fat) and curb food intake, the company shared. OEA also stimulates the release of GLP-1 to further aid in reducing food intake. The ingredient helps support healthy weight management and metabolic health. Trpti is powered by LipiSperse technology, which helps efficiently deliver OEA to the intestine for improved bioavailabilty. This also helps broaded the formulation opportunities beyond pills. Kyowa Hakko and MOSH, Maria Shriver and Patrick Schwarzenegger’s protein bar brand, highlighted their new partnership. The bars include Kyowa’s branded citicoline ingredient, Cognizin, which has been shown to support focus, attention, memory, and mental energy.

Laird Superfood launched the larger 25.4-ounce version of its popular liquid Superfood Creamer with Functional Mushrooms available in Sweet & Creamy, Vanilla, Cinnamon, and Unsweetened. Also on display were the brand’s Organic Lion’s Mane Mushroom Powder, Organic Turkey Tail Mushroom Powder, Organic Reishi Mushroom Powder, and Organic Oyster Mushroom Powder. 

Little Bellies the organic baby and toddler food brand specializes in age-and-stage appropriate snacks that “grow with your kids.” Available in a wide range flavors, each product is designed to guide little ones through their early food introduction journeys. 

Living Alchemy Manufacturers and distributors of traditionally fermented, non-GMO, certified organic, whole food supplements exclusively to the natural health channel in Canada and the United States, Living Alchemy offers customers probiotics, minerals, fermented herbals, and daily dietary supplements.

Mightylicious With so many consumers following a Gluten Free Diet, company’s like Mightylicious have stood out at retail stores due to their “Gluten-free. Kosher. Non-GMO. Pure Clean Ingredients.” offering that actually taste as good as non gluten-free friendly products. Founded by Carolyn Haeler, Mighylicious cookies are made free of preservatives, free of hydrogenated oil, and using only 6 simple ingredients.

Milkadamia introduced us to its new Flat Pack product. The company is focusing on minimizing waste without sacrificing taste or quality with its precycled oat milk sheets. With just two cups of water needed per sheet, customers can blend 16 ounces of delicious tasting oat milk in roughly one minute. 

Nutraland USA was discussing Miricell Upcycled Rice Germ Polyamines, a natural, non-GMO, and gluten-free source of spermidine and other polyamines. Benefits include longevity/healthy aging, skin & hair health, immunity support, neuroprotection, cardio protection, women’s health, and fertility health. NXT USA launched a new ingredient, Xeya Shatavari 15%. The next-generation ingredient is clinically validated at 100mg per day in two human studies (pending publication) and designed to support women’s hormonal health.

Opal & Joy, a company founded by women for women, is setting out to revolutionize the traditional approach to perimenopause with plant-powered solutions. Founded by Tiffany Tompkins and Melissa Zissou, the brand was the result of Tiffany’s own “perimenopause journey through hell.” Her struggles led to the formulation of a line of all-natural, non-GMO, certified organic supplements that support the hormonal health and emotional well-being of women experiencing perimenopause. Pitaya Foods a 2025 NEXTY Finalist in the Natural Kid’s Product category was treating guests to their new Organic Smoothie Pops. Made with only five ingredients and offering a half serving of fruit per pop, the new product line is ready-to-eat, great for everyday snacking with antioxidant-rich superfruit nutrients and vitamin C, and parent and kid approved. Customers can choose from Organic Acai & Blueberry, Organic Dragon Fruit & Mango, and Organic Passion Fruit & Peach and purchase them directly from the company’s website or find them at Walmart locations.

Roots Focus announced the expansion of its mind- and mood-boosting supplement line to include convenient stick packs for benefits on the go. The stick packs combine the energizing power of caffeine with the brain-boosting benefits of functional mushrooms to enhance both mental clarity and vitality, the company says. Varieties include Strawberry Watermelon, Spicy PineappleBlackberry Lavender Lemonade, and Fruit Punch.

Sabinsa was on hand to talk about its Consumer Goods Division, which now includes Nature’s Formulary. The brand was on site identifying visitors’ Dosha, which in the Ayurvedic tradition determines how you should manage your health. Sabinsa also showcased mainstays from the company’s ingredient line including LivLonga, Sabroxy, CurCousin, Curcumin C3 REduct, LactoSpore, Shagandha, PoZibio, BioPerine, and DigeZyme.

South Chicago Packing, a fifth generation family-owned business specializing in high-end specialty fats, custom oil blends and food-grade specialty products was at the event introducing customers to the many benefits of their products. As we reported, beef tallow and its resurgence in modern skincare as a moisturizer and healer was one of the trends we noticed from the show. In addition to traditional lard shortening products, South Chicago Packing offers more exclusive products like Wagyu Beef Tallow. What really sets them apart is their innovative spray bottle formats, a favorite amongst consumers for its convenience.

Specnova showcased its new ingredient GingerT3, a high-potency ginger extract developed for joint support and mobility in a small, 75-125mg, once-a-day dose. The broad-spectrum ginger is created using two unique processes: 1) key compounds found in the ginger oleoresin that are known to inhibit specific pain receptors and inflammatory enzymes are extracted and concentrated. 2) GingerT3 ferments the non-oleoresin portions of the ginger Rhizome, which the company says increases their bioavailability and stability. The company was also spotlighting NordicCherry full spectrum whole fruit tart cherry extract, which features potent antioxidants believed to influence the expression of genes that regulate multiple “inflammatory” pathways and pain-inducing enzymes. Another highlight was research showing the benefits of NovaQSpheres in a study on creatine monohydrate. In a simulated intestinal fluid study over 10 hours, NovaQSpheres Creatine Monohydrate Beadlets demonstrated a gradual release pattern that the company said allows for higher cellular creatine concentrations and improved overall retention, addressing a challenge in creatine supplementation.

TriNutra, which supplies the first cold-pressed black seed (Nigella sativa (NS)) oil standardized to 3% thymoquinone and extremely low free fatty acids, shared the news of a recent U.S. patent for the unique composition of its branded ingredients, ThymoQuin, B’utyQuin and ThymoQuin-OCare for oral care. Company CEO Morris Zelkah discussed published clinical trials on the health benefits (including significant support for stress relief) and efficacy of ThymoQuin, which also holds numerous global patents back it for its composition, stability, bioavailability, and use. 

Valensa International showcased a study that examined the effects of USPlus, a standardized USP-verified saw palmetto extract, on lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). In the study, 45 healthy men (mean age of 55) supplemented with 320 mg of USPlus daily for 12 weeks. Key Findings: 65% of participants saw an improvement in IPSS scores, indicating reduced urinary symptom severity; 100% of participants reported improved QoL scores at 12 weeks, with one-third noticing improvements as early as six weeks; at 12 weeks, there were significant improvements in both voiding (e.g., stronger stream, less straining) and storage symptoms (e.g., reduced urgency and frequency); 50% of men experienced a stronger stream and reduced straining within six weeks; 59% of men reported better bladder control and reduced urgency.
